Welcome to the Frink School of Figurative Art & Sculpture
Fine Art Courses in Figurative Sculpture, Wood Carving,
Stone Carving and Life Drawing
The Frink School of Figurative Art & Sculpture, first
established in 1996 as a small, dedicated community, was
primarily set up to teach and carry forward the living
tradition of figurative sculpture to high professional
standards. The name of the school derives from the distinguished
figurative sculptor, Dame Elisabeth Frink (1930-1993) whose
son is a patron of the school.
The Frink School of Figurative Art & Sculpture now
offers a full range of non-residential, part time courses
in sculpture, drawing and painting. The school
seeks to provide the diverse range of basic skills, knowledge
and expertise essential to a figurative mode of working
and relevant to contemporary makers and practitioners across
the visual arts. Located at Leek, in the Staffordshire
Moorlands on the edge of the Peak District in a 19th Century
former silk mill building with excellent studio/workshop
equipment and facilities, there is ample provision locally
for overnight stay at various B&Bs.
The core programme of courses includes life drawing, stone
and wood carving, letter carving, portrait and life modelling,
life painting and painting from the Peak landscape. The tutors
are all experienced artists/craft persons who provide individual
tuition. Both beginners and the more experienced are equally
welcome.
